The HS-8 from Tascam is a professional
solid-state 8-channel audio recorder that offers a wealth of features in
a compact rack mountable design. The HS-8 can record 4 channels of
Broadcast WAV files at rates up to 24-bit/192kHz and 8 channels at up to
24-bit/96kHz for any professional application. It can also record 8
channels, plus a stereo mix track at 44.1 or 48kHz resolution. The files
also have iMXL metadata for professional logging and editing. Files are
captured to widely-available CompactFlash cards for terrific
reliability. A pair of CF slots is provided, allowing you to make a
continuous recording when one card fills up, or to make mirror
recordings. A front-panel headphone jack is provided for quick and easy
monitoring.
The recorder has analog and digital 25-pin input and
output connectors, as well as analog and digital stereo XLR I/O for
channels 1 and 2, and 8-channel ADAT digital optical I/O, letting you
connect to virtually any professional sound system or device. The
recorder's front panel features a large color TFT touch screen that
gives you dynamic feedback and control. Fully-equipped to handle any
pro-level task, the HS-8 features a video/word clock BNC input, a BNC
word clock out/thru connector, and BNC SMPTE timecode I/O. A variety of
control connectors are provided, including a PS/2 keyboard input,
RS-422/RS-232C serial control input, a parallel control port, an RJ-45
LAN control, and an RC-HS20PD remote input. A front-panel USB 2.0 port
is provided for quickly transferring files to an external flash memory
drive.
TASCAM's HS-8 is the first solution for professional
multi-channel recording and playback using solid-state media. From
studio surround recording to post production playback of HS-P82 location
recordings, the HS-8 fits a variety of multi-channel roles. Also true
to TASCAM tradition, audio is top-quality throughout with up to
192kHz/24-bit recording.
Like the HS-P82, the HS-8 uses a color
touch-screen interface to access settings and tracks. A mixer is
built-in for monitoring, and the stereo mix can be recorded live as a
separate track. Audio is recorded as Broadcast WAV files to Compact
Flash media, with SMPTE timecode available on various interfaces.
The RC-HS20PD remote
control enables the HS-8 to instantly start playback of up to 100 takes
(flash-start) directly, or by using the fader start/stop option. The
built-in TFT color touch screen can be used for the same operations as
the display on the connected HS-8. The RC-HS20PD is connected to the
HS-8 with a CAT6 cable, enabling control of the HS-8 from up to 10m away
(5m cable included with product).
